As you can imagine I’m often asked which protein powder is best for weight loss.
First, lets get one thing straight, by weight loss we mean fat loss. You shouldn’t really care if you lose a couple of kilos of fat and gain some muscle. Even if you’re female, retaining or gaining muscle is important because that’s what will give you that ‘toned’ look. Ultimately, fat loss is about calorie intake. Eat fewer calories than you burn and your body needs to give up some of its' fat stores. However, your body can also break down muscle for energy use if it feels it needs to, so it’s important to consume adequate clean protein. An important thing to remember when using a protein powder for a weight loss program is that apart from protein (amino acids), you’re not getting a lot of other nutrients (vitamins, minerals or healthy fats). It’s important, therefore, to make sure you're eating plenty of fruit and veggies and getting enough healthy fats from avocados, fish and olive oil. With this in mind, you can use your protein powder as a meal replacement or add it to a meal to boost the protein content. My picks are: MyoPure’s MF Whey Protein Isolate
or a mix of MF Whey Protein Isolate and Calcium Caseinate especially for a fat loss meal replacement shake. Palatinose can be used as a health low GI carbohydrate source or use Xylitol as a sugar free sweeter if you have a sweet tooth.
